At Dubai Airport, an underground system is installed to supply fuel, electricity and water to planes through energy columns. These retractable columns are installed in underground shafts from which the Jung Pumpen submersible drainage pumps dispose the incoming effluent.

Aircraft need a lot of service and ancillary equipment while they are being prepared for take-off and supplied with fuel, electricity, water and conditioned air. The largest space on the apron is taken up by large trucks and heavy diesel generators with their associated cables and hoses. As a solution to this problem, Cavotec Fladung has developed an underground system that supplies the aircraft via energy columns. When the supply process is finished, these are sunk back into the ground.
In order to free the shafts in which the columns are located underground from penetrating dirty water, Cavotec relies on the proven US 73 Ex submersible drainage pumps from JUNG PUMPEN.
This is also the case at Dubai International Airport, which is the most important airport in the Middle East with 34.3 million passengers and over 250,000 flight movements per year. No less than 80 of these robust submersible pumps are used here. US 73 Ex pumps are the optimal solution for heavily contaminated waste water, they can handle impurities of up to 30 mm grain size. The high-quality and therefore durable pumps can be used both as transportable and stationary units. They are the first choice for optimum safety in rooms with explosion hazards.
