The history of Jung Pumpen GmbH is a journey through a century of innovation, growth and adaptation to changing market conditions. Since its foundation in 1924, the company has developed from a small craft business in Steinhagen, Westphalia, into a leading international supplier of wastewater technology for domestic and municipal drainage.

The founding years (1924 - 1939)

Heinrich Christian Jung founded the company with one assistant and a starting capital of 1,000 gold marks. He began with the design and manufacture of hand-operated slurry pumps, which enabled local farmers to transfer slurry from storage tanks or containers to the fields as fertiliser. Domestic waterworks were also part of the programme at the time.

Years of post-war reconstruction (1945 - 1959)

Heinrich Christian Jung used the years of reconstruction after the Second World War for an important strategic reorientation: he moved away from manual production and geared the company towards industrial series production. This decision was crucial for further development. In addition to the first waste water pumps (A54), lifting units were now also built.

Innovative spirit (1960 - 1990)

In the 1960s, Jung Pumpen achieved a technical milestone with the introduction of the first submersible pump "U33". The success with waste water pumps and later also with sewage pumps continued, in particular with the well-known "U3K" drainage pump.

During this time, the company also tried its hand at pools and pumps for swimming pool technology, but this was abandoned due to the oil crises in the 1970s. Instead, the "Juga 75" garden pump became a hit and was considered by many to be indestructible. It is no longer produced, but is still in use in many places.

The 1980s saw the introduction of pressure drainage, a technology that uses domestic pumping stations to dispose of wastewater via pressure pipe networks. One of the first projects was the comprehensive sewage disposal of the Baltic Sea peninsula Darß using this technology. Today, Jung Pumpen is one of the market leaders for pressure drainage in Germany and is involved in major projects worldwide.  In the 1990s, the company set up its own plastics plant, where it has been producing its own pump sumps and containers ever since.

The foundation for customer proximity and service quality

At the end of the 1960s, work began on establishing a nationwide network of regional sales representatives. At the same time, a specialised customer service department was set up to carry out maintenance and repair work at end customers' premises. This laid the foundation for the pronounced customer proximity and service quality that characterise Jung Pumpen up until today. This can also be seen in the modern "Forum" training centre, where a varied programme of seminars and events is offered for all customer groups.

Global expansion (1990 to today)

Jung Pumpen's presence in Europe was further expanded in the 1990s. During this decade, not only was the product portfolio expanded, but international activities were also significantly strengthened. With the takeover of the company by the American water technology group Pentair in 2007, this development was further advanced worldwide.

The employees - a pillar of the company's success

The number of employees has grown steadily, from 10 in 1934 to 366 highly committed and competent employees today. The company has been training young professionals since the early years and continues to provide motivated young talent until today. There are currently 15 apprentices in training in three professions. A fourth will be added this year. With an average length of service of currently 14 years, the workforce is a well-rehearsed team, without which the success of Jung Pumpen would not be possible.

Moving with the times and into the future

Jung Pumpen is not only a company with a rich history but is also constantly orientated towards the challenges of the times. For example, comfortable living at home plays a major role for an ageing society. With the Plancofix floor drainage pump, a technical solution has been created that makes barrier-free showers in existing bathrooms possible almost everywhere. In response to the increasing problems caused by heavy rainfall and the resulting basement flooding, the Flutbox was developed - a first-aid kit that can be used to pump out basements or underground car parks on your own. Jung Pumpen developed a new type of cutting system for its MultiCut waste water pumps as a technical solution against blockages in waste water pumps, which are increasingly confronted with long-fibre wet wipes, thus setting new standards.

Visions for the future: a statement from the Managing Director

"Innovation and customer proximity are at the heart of our corporate philosophy," emphasises Stefan Sirges, Managing Director of Jung Pumpen. "Our aim is to remain a leader in wastewater technology and to develop products that meet the requirements of a constantly changing world. To achieve this, we rely on production at the company site in Steinhagen, on the expertise of our workforce and on the traditionally close relationships with our customers. With a comprehensive field and customer service organisation, we offer advice and support directly on site. Our numerous seminars and events provide a lively dialogue and in-depth information. This holistic presence confirms Jung Pumpen as a premium brand and should continue to give us future-oriented impulses."
